Primary Runoff Election 2026

Republican and Democratic Candidates

Federal, State, District, and County Races

Texas Primary Runoff

Who Can Vote in a Runoff Election?

All registered voters in Texas are eligible to vote in the primary runoff election. If the voter cast a ballot in the Democratic primary, they must vote in the Democratic primary runoff election. The same goes for voters who voted in the Republican primary, they must vote in that party's runoff race. Voters cannot change which party they want to vote for in the runoff election.

Voters are eligible to vote in the runoff election even if they did not vote in the primary election.

When is the Texas Primary runoff elections

The Texas primary runoff election is on Tuesday, May 26. Early voting starts on Monday, May 18 and goes until Friday, May 22.

The last day to register to vote for the runoff primary election is April 27. If you are not sure if you are registered to vote, you can check your voter registration status on the Secretary of State's website.

What is a Runoff Election?

Candidates must secure more than 50% of the vote to advance directly to the General Election in November, or the top two candidates lead into a runoff election — or a second election — to be certified as the winner.

Primary Winners and Candidates in Primary Runoff Races

Primary winners in races without a member of the other party in the race have won outright, unless a third party or write-in candidate runs in November. However they will not take office until 2027.

Official results of the March 3 Republican and Democratic Primary Elections are in!

Below are the winners of contested races in each primary and those who will be in a runoff election.

General Election Candidate for November 3, 2026

Please Note: Some candidates have no one running from the opposing party. If none is shown, the shown candidate is likely to have no opponent in the fall. The exception would be if a minor party convention chooses a candidate to run in that election.

If you voted in one of the primaries, you can only vote in that party's runoff election. Also, anyone who voted in a primary election is not able to vote in a minor party's convention.
